Question 1

How do I make a roll?

Accepted Answer

Click Skill or Discipline under the chat, describe your action, and pick the attribute/skill (or power). The app builds your dice pool (Attribute + Skill) and your Hunger dice automatically, rolls, and shows the result — you never assemble dice by hand. If the roll fails, you can spend Willpower to reroll up to three failed dice (the reroll button appears with the result).

Question 2

What counts as a success?

Accepted Answer

6–9 on a die: success 10: success (+2 successes for each pair of 10s) 1 on a Hunger die: no success — a Bestial Failure if the test fails 10 on a Hunger die: success, and a Messy Critical if you crit You pass when your successes meet or exceed the difficulty. Example (difficulty 3): 3 successes = passed; 2 = failed; 5 with a crit = passed with extra benefit; 1 with a Hunger 1 = Bestial Failure.

Question 3

What happens on Messy Criticals & Bestial Failures?

Accepted Answer

The Beast intrudes. Depending on the moment, the storyteller may narrate: A Compulsion (Hunger, dominance, harm, paranoia, or your clan's own compulsion) A Stain for cruel or inhuman behavior Some other costly complication fitting the scene Willpower reroll: spend 1 Willpower to reroll up to three failed (non-Hunger) dice — offered as a button after the roll.

Question 4

What are the common checks?

Accepted Answer

Rouse Check (1d10): rolled automatically when certain Disciplines call for it — a flavor beat for the blood stirring in your veins. Your actual Hunger level is tracked and narrated by the storyteller as the night unfolds (see Feeding & Hunger below), not driven by this roll.

Question 5

What are the common skill tests?

Accepted Answer

Physical — Athletics, Brawl, Craft, Drive, Firearms, Melee, Larceny, Stealth, Survival. Social — Animal Ken, Etiquette, Insight, Intimidation, Leadership, Performance, Persuasion, Streetwise, Subterfuge. Mental — Academics, Awareness, Finance, Investigation, Medicine, Occult, Politics, Science, Technology. Each pairs a skill with a fitting Attribute (e.g. Strength + Brawl, Wits + Awareness). The roll dialog lets you pick the pairing.

Question 6

How do Health & Willpower work?

Accepted Answer

Damage fills Superficial then Aggravated boxes. Aggravated (fire, sunlight, or overflow) is far harder to heal. The storyteller applies and tracks this for you — see the Vitals panel. Spending Willpower marks 1 superficial Willpower damage. Health and Willpower typically recover with rest, at the storyteller's pace.

Question 7

How do Humanity, Stains, and Convictions work?

Accepted Answer

Your Humanity (0–10) is your grip on your mortal self — shown as a 10-box track in the Conscience panel. Acting against one of your Convictions, casual cruelty, needlessly harmful feeding, or betraying a Touchstone marks a Stain (shown filling in from the right side of the same track). Stains don't just sit there: when you carry any into the next night, clicking Rise at nightfall automatically resolves a Remorse test — a dice pool equal to your current Humanity. Any success clears your Stains with no cost; no successes still clears them, but the guilt costs you a point of Humanity instead. Lower Humanity means fewer dice, so it gets harder to hold onto your conscience the further you slip — clear your Stains sooner rather than later. Convictions and Touchstones are the people and principles that anchor your Humanity — set them up in your character sheet, and the storyteller will weigh your actions against them.

Question 8

How does feeding work?

Accepted Answer

Feeding lowers your Hunger — how much depends on the source and the method: a quick sip is safer but slakes less; draining someone dry slakes the most, but is far riskier and more dangerous to the Masquerade. Feed on your Herd, on the situation, or via your Predator type. When you feed on a human, the blood also carries a Resonance (Choleric, Melancholic, Phlegmatic, or Sanguine) that colors the scene and can favor certain Disciplines (see below). Your Hunger (0–5) isn't raised by a dice roll — the storyteller tracks and narrates it as the night unfolds: 0–1: sated, can pass for human 2–3: a predatory edge, heightened senses 4: the Beast presses in — blood dominates your focus 5: desperate and dangerous — frenzy is a real risk Feed before it gets there.

Question 9

Which Disciplines does each Resonance favor?

Accepted Answer

Choleric: Celerity, Potence Melancholic: Fortitude, Obfuscate Phlegmatic: Auspex, Dominate Sanguine: Blood Sorcery, Presence Animal blood: Animalism, Protean

Question 10

How do quests and XP work?

Accepted Answer

As the story unfolds, the storyteller may offer you a quest when the moment feels right — you can accept or decline. A quest has a few concrete steps; you complete each one by doing it in the fiction (not just talking about it or discussing the idea), and the storyteller will tell you when a step is done. Each completed step grants XP, and finishing the whole quest grants a bigger bonus on top. How much depends on your character's experience level (Childer, Neonate, or Ancillae, set by your Generation) — more experienced characters earn more XP per quest, reflecting how much further they have to grow. XP only comes from completing quest steps — there's no other source, so a good way to grow your character is to actively pursue the quests the storyteller offers.

Question 11

What's the difference between human and vampire NPCs?

Accepted Answer

NPCs come in two kinds: Vampire (Kindred) — has a clan, Disciplines, Blood Potency, and Hunger like a player character. The storyteller must reveal their vampiric nature to you once it's relevant. Human (mortal) — clan-less: no Disciplines, no Hunger. Shopkeepers, family, hunters, coworkers — the ordinary people of the city. They can still become an important Retainer or Thrall through Relationships (see below). Once an NPC is introduced as one or the other, that's locked in — a human can't secretly turn out to be a vampire later, and vice versa. The storyteller introduces both kinds naturally as the story calls for it; you can also nudge it ('introduce a mortal ally') if you want a specific one. NPCs also carry a status — alive, dead, or (Kindred only) in torpor. Death is permanent for both; torpor is a dormant state a vampire can be roused from.

Question 12

What are Relationships and what do the types mean?

Accepted Answer

The Relationships tab on your character sheet lets you record your character's bonds to the NPCs you've met — a type plus a short note. This is different from Disposition (how an NPC currently feels about you, tracked automatically behind the scenes and shown as Hostile/Wary/Neutral/Friendly/Loyal) — Relationships is the story-level tie you or the storyteller choose to define, and it only changes when you (or the storyteller, during play) update it. Ally — someone who'll back you up when it counts Rival — competitive tension, not necessarily hostile Family — blood relatives or found-family ties from your mortal life Sire — the vampire who Embraced you Childe — a vampire you've Embraced Enemy — active hostility Lover — a romantic bond Mentor — someone teaching or guiding you Thrall — a mortal bound to you by the Blood Bond Retainer — a loyal mortal ally or servant, not Blood Bound Acquaintance — a lighter connection worth remembering Custom — anything that doesn't fit; write your own label The storyteller can also record relationships during play — including bonds between two NPCs you've witnessed or heard about — to keep the world consistent.
