Predator Types

Your predator type is the way your vampire survives the night: a character package, a familiar hunting method, and a pressure point the chronicle can keep returning to.

The short answer

Vampiro Life supports ten executable core predator packages. Choosing one applies its creation choices once and stores the profile on the character. During play, the server compares the method you attempt with that profile: matching methods keep the Storyteller's base difficulty, while an off-type core method is allowed at +1 difficulty. A hunt finds access; feeding still resolves separately.

The ten core types

Each type gives the character a recognizable way into the feeding story. The pool below is guidance for the usual approach, not a permission to invent final results.

Alleycat

Ambush prey with force and intimidation.

Usual pool: Strength + Brawl

Bagger

Acquire stored blood through a supply chain.

Usual pool: Intelligence + Streetwise / Larceny

Blood Leech

Feed from another Kindred in a real scene.

Usual pool: Kindred scene facts

Cleaver

Return to a named household or circle of friends.

Usual pool: Manipulation + Subterfuge

Consensualist

Establish meaningful consent before drinking.

Usual pool: Manipulation + Persuasion

Farmer

Track and handle animals as a regular source.

Usual pool: Composure + Animal Ken

Osiris

Cultivate followers who provide access to blood.

Usual pool: Manipulation + Subterfuge / Fame

Sandman

Enter homes and feed from sleeping vessels.

Usual pool: Dexterity + Stealth

Scene Queen

Use a named subculture or social scene.

Usual pool: Manipulation + Persuasion

Siren

Attract a vessel through seduction and intimacy.

Usual pool: Charisma + Subterfuge

  1. A package is a character snapshot

A core type supplies its selected specialty, Discipline dot, Advantages or Flaws, and any Humanity or Blood Potency adjustment. Previewing, switching, retrying a save, or reloading cannot apply the same package twice.

  2. A hunt finds access; it does not finish feeding

The server resolves the hunt pool and outcome from the saved character. A successful hunt creates an opportunity to feed. Hunger, source amount, Blood Potency, consent, harm, and other costs resolve separately.

  3. Off-type hunting is allowed, but visible

A core character can try another method. The server adds +1 difficulty when the method is outside the persisted type, reports the base and final difficulties, and never lets the model smuggle in or remove the modifier.

  4. A name is not proof of a resource

Herds, households, flocks, named vessels, and Kindred targets need persisted access, availability, and scene facts. Historical package ownership does not invent a resource that the chronicle never established.

  5. Legacy history stays honest

Imported sheets and older NPCs may have final ratings without reliable package provenance. Review can confirm known choices or preserve an unknown history; it does not grant a second package or respec a running chronicle.

Let the feeding identity create pressure

The best predator type is not a passive bonus. It tells the Storyteller where access comes from, who can be hurt by the next meal, and what becomes harder when the easy path disappears.

Three ways this appears in play

  • Farmer outside the fields

A Farmer can pursue an Alleycat-style ambush when the scene calls for it. The attempt is legal, but the server rolls it at the Storyteller's base difficulty plus one for the off-type method.

  • A named household

A Cleaver's household is not an infinite abstract Herd. The family or friend group has to exist in the chronicle, remain available, and still make sense as access when the character returns.

  • The Kindred vessel

Blood Leech feeding needs a living, present Kindred target with resolved access and explicit Hunger and Blood Potency. The result records exposure for later Bond judgment instead of pretending every consequence is automatic.

Questions that matter at the table

Can I choose a custom predator type?
Custom and expansion names remain valid compatibility data, but the current executable package catalog is the ten core types listed above. A custom profile does not silently receive the full package of a similarly named type.
Does a successful hunt reduce Hunger?
No. A hunt resolves access to a vessel or source. Feeding is a separate action with its own amount, Blood Potency, restrictions, resource costs, and consequences.
Does off-type hunting force a Stain or a Rouse Check?
Not by itself. The current rule is a server-owned +1 difficulty modifier. Moral consequences, Rouse costs, and feeding outcomes come from the actual method and scene facts.
What happens to Resonance?
Human Resonance comes from explicit vessel or scene facts. Animals provide animal Resonance, processed bags provide none, and missing information remains unknown. An active Resonance record expires when Hunger reaches five.
